During the series of lightning storms that rolled through the area on July 15, a home on Braemar Crescent Drive in Darnestown was struck, causing significant damage.

The fire started in the attic area and rapidly spread while temperatures in the area approached 100 degrees with high humidity.

Crews had to battle both smokey conditions, extreme heat, and the blaze, which left four adults displaced, all of whom were able to get out of the home without incident.

No injuries were reported. The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
